This is followed by 4 teachings on bodhicitta, the wish to become enlightened so as to free all beings from their sufferings. Finally, the course is completed with 3 teachings on the correct view - understanding both the ultimate and the conventional nature of reality, the only way to completely cut our bondage to cyclic existence. The Four Noble Truths
The First Teaching of the Buddha
The Four Noble Truths is the first teaching of the Buddha. This is the very foundation of Buddhist thought, and addresses the reasons why we suffer and how we can completely remove the causes of this suffering. This commentary (given over a weekend in Brisbane in 1999) is an introduction to applying these profound Buddhist teachings in our daily life. They also give a wonderful introduction to the Buddhist concept of 'emptiness', and how beginning to understand how it is that we actually exist is the very root of removing our suffering forever. How Karma Works
A Beginner's Overview
These teachings explain the workings of karma, the internal law of cause and effect. They explain the four aspects of karma: that it cannot be tricked, that if left alone karma multiplies, that one cannot experience the results of something one has not done, and that karma does not fade away. The teachings also discuss how to meditate, how to take advantage of our human situation, how to respond to difficulties, where suffering comes from, and how to purify the mind and attain happiness. They were given In Brisbane in 2000, by Geshe Tashi Tsering and translated by Ven. Losang Zopa (then Bob Millar). 4 audio teachings, 4 edited transcripts and review questions.
