Teachings with the Tibetan Lamas

Weekend Course with Geshe Jamyang
Practicing Guru Devotion Correctly

Why do we need a spiritual teacher? What role do they play? What qualities should we look for in a teacher? And what are our responsibilities as a student? In this weekend course Geshe-la will explain how to relate to a teacher for greatest benefit in one's spiritual life, and how to avoid the common pitfalls of blind devotion.

He is much loved for his contemporary and humorous analogies that illustrate the teachings so clearly. He teaches through a translator - Yaki Platt - an Israeli man who has worked closely with Geshe-la for years. Eddie Peet will lead a tutorial and question session each afternoon as part of the weekend.

Dagri Rinpoche (first Australian tour)
7-Point Mind Training
How to cleanse our minds and hearts of habitual negative attitudes and disturbing emotions, and replace them with positive ones? This is an introductory talk on the famous 7-point instruction composed by Lama Atisha. They constitute a complete daily practice, as well as a long-term strategy to deal with difficult situations and develop the causes for lasting happiness.

About Dagri Rinpoche
Dagri Rinpoche is the reincarnation of Pari Dorje Chang, a great geshe of Lhasa and the teacher of many lamas, including Lama Yeshe. Born in Tibet in 1958, he grew up during the Cultural Revolution, and escaped in 1982. After completing his 17 years of study of Buddhist philosophy and practice he received the Geshe Lharampa degree (the highest qualification possible). Lama Yeshe, and later Lama Zopa Rinpoche, both supported him during his studies at Sera Monastery. Lama Zopa Rinpoche often confers with Dagri Rinpoche, and says he can teach lam-rim, lojong and philosophy as well as give initiations, conduct fire pujas, and teach tantric commentaries. This is his first Australian tour.

Geshe Lobsang Jamyang

Regular Friday Fortnight Teachings
with Geshe Lobsang Jamyang
Geshe Lobsang Jamyang has been a student of Geshe Tashi Tsering for over 20 years, and is a highly qualified teacher in his own right. He is the resident Geshe at Chenrezig Institute, our sister centre in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. He has many years of experience in all aspects of Buddhist theory and practice, and is a warm and enthusiastic teacher.

Teachings resume on Friday 30th July 2010.

The Way of the Bodhisattva
Geshe-la is teaching from the text The Way of the Bodhisattva, advice on how to make every day of this life both compassionate and meaningful. We are into Chapter 10 - on Wisdom.

Whilst Geshe-la is an 'easy ' Geshe, it's a 'hard' topic! Geshe-la explains the essential meaning of each verse, unraveling the code as it were, and elaborates on the often oblique references. He gives us supremely practical advice on how to follow these methods so as to be able to change our mind, and thus our life, for the better. Although we are working our way through the root text, you can still join at any time.

Geshe-la has invited everyone who comes to these teachings to email or write down any questions you may have. We will then have a regular evening every few Fridays devoted to answering these questions. They can about the topic we are studying or about Buddhism in general. Please keep your questions succinct, as Yaki has to translate them!

About the Evening
These teachings are most suitable for intermediate students and the committed beginner. Geshe-la teaches through a translator - Yaki Platt - an Israeli man who has worked closely with Geshe-la for years. This gives us time to contemplate the teachings in nice bite-size chunks. There is an opportunity for questions at the end of teachings, and please join us for tea and biscuits afterwards.

If you become a member of LTC you can listen to the current teaching in our Member's Area on the website.
